Miho and Liz,

I'm so grateful for your sharing of both eco-village models with us today. We at Sufi Park in Carbondale Illinois are so glad that Art of Living participants have put their heart into living in harmony with the Earth in so many diverse ways.

What a Happy and Wonderful Conversation this is becoming.

Much Love,
Betsy Herman

Miho, this sounds amazing. Sustainable Living Eco-Villages are definitely a wave of the future, soon we'll all be living in green pods that produce and use its own energy.

you mentioned that you're currently living in an eco-village, for how long? are you familiar with EcoCityCleveland.org? If not, here's a bit more info:

The Cleveland EcoVillage is a diverse neighborhood that is pedestrian-friendly. It is a national demonstration project with the goal of developing a model urban village that realizes the potential of urban life in the most ecological way possible. The nearby new Simmons Park sits on the site of an abandoned gas station. The gas station and Brownfield were demolished and remediated in partnership with the Cuyahoga County Department of Development. The park represents one of the strategies that DSCDO is utilizing to repurpose vacant land into healthy, useful spaces valued and cared for by the surrounding community.

I'm with Positively Cleveland so this explains my love for the "green city on the blue lake", but i'm always interested in hearing how others are living green across the world.

Hello dearest friends form Art of Living and all over.
The idea of Art of Living Ecovillage came as an inspiration that did not go ever since. I feel the time is coming when Guruji will just say yes to a project of this kind.
Of course we would like to see one day all the AOL centres around the world implementing sustainable practices but sometimes it is much easier to create something new, in a way that will give a good example to others.
The Art of Living Ecovillage will be sustainable and uplifting place, where people feel and act one with the forces of Nature and most importantly where they will know they are home. We can give AOL courses, give Ayurvedic treatments, offer educational programs on ecology and sustainability. It will welcome volunteers, guests and participants, students and will be a good ground for creating and implementing ecological projects around the world.
I would like to share this idea with you because I feel I am not the only one who has it, and for those of you who find it attaractive - let us meet and make this idea, a reality. I am thinking of creating this centre in central Europe. For now I do not hav a particular place in mind but it will come as we develop the project.
Right now I am living and volunteering in a beautiful ecovillage in France - very close to our German Ashram - about three hours by train. The ecovillage is called Ecolonie. Here they have amazng organic garden, goat farm, they use only bio degradable products, have energy saving practices and the way it functions is good and effective. In the times where a lot of guests come here, there are numerous workshops and social gatherings. I feel it is a good place to learn from. That is why I am here - to learn and to share. Here the food is fresh and abundant, I meet very interesting people here - we do yoga, watch good movies, have creative ideas, and of course work good.
For me Ecolonie, can be the meeting place where we can learn and start our own project. So feel welcome to visit the webiste: www.ecolonie.org and come experience yourself - what the life of an ecological community feels like.

Hi Emilia,
How many people do you have working this land? Do you have a group that practices Kriya there?

I live next door to a community organic garden where I help do the weeding, but there is no Art of Living group here. The garden I work with is part of a Sufi Community.

I hope to meet you someday and maybe come to see your land...

JGD with love,
Betsy

Although i didn't start it, I believe it has to cover all the locations that the Art of Living community touches, both at Ashrams and Centers in general and at the places and local at-large communities where we all live. it may be possible that a particular Ashram or Center would want to collectively dedicate itself to creating such a village among the team members who support and utilize that place.

This is why I created the group, Community Supported Agriculture. Farmers all over the world need support from their local communities, especially those farmers doing the extra work to use sustainable and organic growing methods. Those of us interested in supporting farming that way may benefit from conversation, comparing notes on how to do so in different parts of the world. Jai Guru Dev! and happy sustainability!

exciting! is there a vision for a particular location? or is it more of a conversation about how to have ashram's and AOL centers be Art of Living Eco Villages?

looking forward to hearing and sharing more!
